Newborn Baby Requires 13 Stitches Following Complications During C-Section

In June 2021, Reazjhana Williams arrived at a Denver hospital excited to welcome her baby girl through a natural birth. However, when medical staff were unable to detect her baby’s heartbeat, the situation quickly shifted to an emergency. Reazjhana was soon taken for a C-section to ensure the safety of both mother and child.

Kyanni, her newborn daughter, was delivered safely but with a serious facial injury—a deep laceration requiring immediate medical attention. The wound extended from her cheek toward her ear and needed thirteen stitches. Due to the severity of the injury, Kyanni was taken directly to a plastic surgeon, which meant she missed the initial bonding moments with her mother.

Doctors later explained that Kyanni’s head had been positioned close to the uterine wall, which may have contributed to the injury during the emergency procedure. While such complications are rare, the experience was understandably difficult for the family.
“It’s been hard to process,” Reazjhana shared. “We never expected this to happen during what should have been a joyful moment.”

Kyanni’s father, Damarqus, expressed the family’s concern and hope for their daughter’s healing: “Seeing her in pain is heartbreaking. We’re focused on supporting her as she recovers.”

Denver Health, where the procedure took place, released a statement saying, “While complications can occur during emergency C-sections, our priority is the safety and well-being of both mother and child. We have been working closely with the family throughout their care.”

To help with medical expenses and ongoing treatments, a GoFundMe campaign was created. The community has responded generously, raising over $11,000 to support Kyanni’s care.

As they move forward, Reazjhana and her family remain hopeful. They are committed to helping Kyanni heal, knowing that while the scar on her face may fade over time, her strength and resilience will continue to shine.
