Border Patrol Official Confronts L.A. Mayor Bass After She Interrupted Migrant Op

A recent federal immigration enforcement operation in Los Angeles has sparked public concern and political reaction, after agents from multiple agencies appeared at MacArthur Park in a high-profile deployment.

On Monday, personnel from Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Customs and Border Protection (CBP), and additional federal units conducted an enforcement action at the park. Officials were seen on foot, horseback, and in vehicles, prompting questions from community members and local leaders.

Mayor Karen Bass, who had been scheduled to meet with Governor Gavin Newsom earlier in the day, arrived on site and expressed concern about the scale of the operation. Speaking to reporters, Bass described the event as “deeply unsettling” and said she had requested that federal personnel leave the area.

“This is not the kind of scene Angelenos should see in our public parks,” Bass said. “Our priority is to keep our neighborhoods safe and peaceful.”

Bass said she spoke directly with a CBP official on-site and expressed her objections to the ongoing operation. Shortly afterward, some units began to clear the area. However, federal officials later stated that operations in Los Angeles are ongoing.

In a statement to FOX Los Angeles, Border Patrol El Centro Sector Chief Gregory Bovino clarified, “Our teams are here in support of a coordinated federal effort and will remain as long as necessary. We are committed to carrying out our responsibilities with professionalism and in accordance with the law.”

The event raised additional concerns when it was reported that a local summer camp for children had to be briefly relocated due to the activity in the area. Camp staff guided children to a nearby indoor location out of caution. No injuries were reported, and city officials confirmed that all children were safe.

Activists present at the park reportedly alerted individuals of the approaching enforcement teams, although it remains unclear how many, if any, detentions were made during the event.

The City of Los Angeles has not issued a formal resolution regarding future coordination with federal immigration operations. Officials emphasized their commitment to protecting all residents and ensuring that public spaces remain safe and accessible to families and children.

As the situation develops, both city and federal leaders are expected to engage in further discussions about how future operations will be communicated and conducted.
