Man converted storage silo into a beautiful 2-bedroom home, see inside

Nestled in the peaceful countryside of Kansas, not far from scenic Highway 50 near Elmdale, stands a unique and beautifully reimagined retreat: a converted grain silo that has been transformed into a stylish and welcoming two-bedroom home. Surrounded by soybean fields and a gentle creek in West Chase County, the Owl’s Nest Silo House offers a one-of-a-kind escape into nature.

The property is the creation of Gerald Wiens, who first ventured into vacation rentals in 2019 with a cozy log cabin. What started as a small idea—renting the cabin on Airbnb a few nights a month—quickly turned into a popular destination. During the pandemic, the Paw Print Cabin was booked for over 180 nights, prompting Gerald to take on an even bigger project.

That project came in the form of a nearby, unused grain silo. With a little imagination and a lot of determination, Gerald began planning how to turn the structure into a fully functional home. The round design presented a number of architectural challenges, but he met them with creativity, hand-drawn plans, and a clear vision.

Today, the result is truly impressive: a four-story home standing 45 feet tall, offering comfort and thoughtful design throughout. Visitors enter into a warm circular living room with soft seating, a gas fireplace set in stone, and a mounted flat-screen TV for entertainment. A convenient half-bath is tucked beneath the spiral staircase that winds up through each floor.

The journey to the top leads to the fourth-floor master bedroom, which provides not only peace and privacy but also sweeping views of the surrounding countryside. While the 45-step climb is part of the experience, the reward is a tranquil space perfect for rest and relaxation.

Every inch of the Owl’s Nest Silo House reflects Gerald’s dedication and personal investment in the project. He spent countless hours bringing his vision to life, and the result is more than a unique structure—it’s a warm, inviting space designed to be both memorable and practical.

Gerald’s original log cabin, the Paw Print Cabin, is already available for rent on Airbnb under “Vacation Rentals Chase County,” and soon, the silo home will be available as well. With its creative design, rustic charm, and peaceful surroundings, the Owl’s Nest Silo House offers visitors a special opportunity to unwind and experience the Kansas countryside in a truly unforgettable setting.
