In a heartfelt Father’s Day tribute, Rumer Willis shared an emotional update on her father Bruce Willis’ battle with frontotemporal dementia. The Die Hard actor was diagnosed in 2023, following an earlier diagnosis of aphasia that led to his retirement from acting.
Rumer posted on Instagram, expressing her deep longing for her father. “Today is hard,” she wrote. “I feel a deep ache in my chest to talk to you… to hug you and ask you about life and your stories.”
She continued, “But I know you wouldn’t want me to be sad today… I’ll try to be grateful, reminding myself how lucky I am that you’re my dad… I can still hold you and kiss your cheek.”
Rumer also spoke about her gratitude for the little things, like seeing Bruce’s eyes light up when he sees her daughter Louetta. She ended her message with love to others facing similar grief: “To the single moms who are dads too, to my future baby daddy…”
Bruce’s wife, Emma Heming Willis, also honored him on Father’s Day. Since his diagnosis, Emma has become a powerful advocate, sharing the realities of their journey.
In a 2024 interview with Town & Country, she reflected, “As his language started changing, it seemed like a stutter… Never in a million years did I think it was dementia.”
She described frontotemporal dementia as a condition that “whispers,” making it difficult to pinpoint when Bruce’s personality gave way to the disease. Through it all, the family remains united and full of love.
