Fans Mourn the Sudden Death of Anne Burrell
Fans are devastated by the unexpected death of beloved TV chef Anne Burrell, who passed away early Tuesday morning, June 17, at her Brooklyn home. She was found unconscious and unresponsive and pronounced dead at the scene. She was just 55. The cause of death remains unknown, pending an autopsy.
Shockingly, Burrell appeared to be in good spirits the night before. On June 16, she performed in the finale of her improv class at The Second City in Brooklyn. Attendees described her as joyful, outgoing, and full of life—her usual vibrant self.
Her final Instagram post, shared just days before her death, showed her smiling with the “Green Lady of Brooklyn,” expressing delight at the encounter. A week earlier, she told fans she was “having an ABSOLUTE blast” with her improv classes and posted photos of herself and classmates.
Burrell had first announced her participation in the improv course in March, sharing how much fun she was having and how it was helping her grow. In April, she eagerly began term two, saying she was “THRILLED to be back.”
Anne Burrell rose to fame in the early 2000s after teaching at the Institute of Culinary Education. She became a Food Network staple on shows like Worst Cooks in America, Iron Chef America, and Chopped, and authored two bestselling cookbooks.
She is survived by her husband, Stuart Claxton, his son Javier, her mother, and two siblings. Her family called her “a light” whose warmth and spirit touched millions.
