Body of 10-Year-Old Dulce Victoria Found in Lerma River

After two days of intense searching, the body of 10-year-old Dulce Victoria, who fell into the Lerma River on Thursday, was found Saturday morning, leaving the Salamanca community in mourning.

In an official statement, the Salamanca Municipal Government confirmed the news: “The body of a 10-year-old girl who fell into the Lerma River in the community of Pitayo was found this Saturday morning.”

“The Municipal Government deeply regrets this painful outcome and expresses its solidarity with the family, reaffirming its commitment to respond with responsibility and humanity in any community crisis,” the statement added.

The discovery marks the end of a desperate search that began when emergency services were alerted around 3:15 p.m. on June 12. A young boy had been spotted clinging to a tree in the river. He was rescued and told authorities that he and Dulce were playing when they both entered the water. While he held onto the tree, Dulce was swept away.

Search and rescue efforts were swift and involved multiple agencies. Thanks were extended to Liborio Vázquez and the Salamanca Rescue Brigade, as well as teams from Irapuato, Pueblo Nuevo, and Huanímaro, along with diving units, firefighters, Red Cross personnel, and Civil Protection forces.

Dulce’s tragic passing has left a deep impact on her community. As Salamanca grieves, many have come together to support her family and honor the life of a young girl lost far too soon.
