The feud between President Donald Trump and Swedish climate icon Greta Thunberg is far from over.<\/p>\n
After Trump publicly dismissed the 22-year-old activist as \u201cstrange\u201d and \u201ctoo angry,\u201d Greta hit back \u2014 and her response is making waves across the internet.<\/p>\n
Greta Thunberg has found herself at the center of international drama once again \u2014 and this time,\u00a0Donald Trump\u00a0wasted no time throwing in his two cents.<\/p>\n
The 22-year-old Swedish climate activist was deported from Israel on June 10 after she was allegedly detained by Israeli forces while sailing toward Gaza with humanitarian aid.<\/p>\n
Thunberg claims she and 11 other activists were \u201ckidnapped in international waters\u201d, a claim Israeli officials flatly deny \u2014 calling the mission \u201da selfie yacht\u201d and nothing more than \u201ca media provocation\u201d designed for publicity.<\/p>\n
\u201cShe\u2019s a young, angry person\u201d<\/p>\n
In a pre-recorded video, shared on Instagram shortly after the group\u2019s interception, Thunberg can be heard saying: \u201cIf you see this video we have been intercepted and kidnapped in international waters by the Israeli occupational forces \u2014 or forces that support Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n
Speaking to reporters on June 10, Trump was asked whether he and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had discussed Thunberg during a phone call they had earlier that day.<\/p>\n
\u201dShe\u2019s a strange person,\u201d he told reporters. \u201cShe\u2019s a young, angry person. I don\u2019t know if it\u2019s real anger; it\u2019s hard to believe actually.\u201d<\/p>\n
He didn\u2019t stop there.<\/p>\n
\u201cI saw what happened. She\u2019s certainly different. Anger management. I think she has got to go to anger management class. That\u2019s my primary recommendation for her.\u201d<\/p>\n
Trump also dismissed her accusations outright, saying:<\/p>\n
\u201cI think Israel has enough problems without kidnapping Greta Thunberg.\u201d<\/p>\n
Greta\u2019s response<\/p>\n
Many felt Trump had crossed a line, taking personal jabs at Greta rather than challenging her views \u2014 but in true Trump fashion, no one was exactly shocked.<\/p>\n
After being detained by Israeli forces, Greta was ultimately deported.<\/p>\n
During a brief stopover in France on her way back to Sweden, Thunberg was met by a swarm of reporters \u2014 and they couldn\u2019t resist asking what she thought about Trump\u2019s latest remarks.<\/p>\n
\u201cWell, I think the world needs a lot more young angry women to be honest \u2014 especially with everything going on right now. That\u2019s the thing we need the most,\u201d\u00a0she fired back.<\/p>\n
Pressed on whether she admitted to entering Israel illegally, Thunberg clarified:<\/p>\n
\u201cI did not recognize that I entered the country illegally. I made it very clear in my testimony that we were kidnapped on international waters and brought there against our own will into Israel.\u201d<\/p>\n
Thunberg was part of a humanitarian mission with the Freedom Flotilla Coalition, aiming to deliver supplies and draw global attention to the suffering in Gaza.<\/p>\n
Didn\u2019t mince words<\/p>\n
In addition to\u00a0Thunberg, the boat carried several other notable passengers: Rima Hassan, a member of the European Parliament; journalist Yanis Mhamdi; Al Jazeera presenter Omar Faiad; and FFC organizers Yasemin Acar and Thiago \u00c1vila.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis was a mission of attempting to once again bring aid to Gaza, which is desperately needed,\u201d she explained.<\/p>\n
\u201cBut also to send solidarity and say that we see you, we see what is happening and we cannot accept just witnessing all this and doing nothing \u2014 that can never be an option.\u201d<\/p>\n
She didn\u2019t mince words on the current crisis, either:<\/p>\n
\u201cRight now [it is] more important than ever because of the siege and because of the systematic starvation of over two million people, and the full-blown live stream genocide.\u201d<\/p>\n
