The nurse asked if he was nervous. He shook his head. \u201cI already did the scary part.\u201d<\/p>\n
I smiled, but I didn\u2019t ask what he meant. I figured he was being brave, like kids do when they know the adults around them are barely holding it together.<\/p>\n
