{"id":1240,"date":"2025-06-20T21:52:44","date_gmt":"2025-06-20T21:52:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/newsfeed99.com\/?p=1240"},"modified":"2025-06-20T21:52:44","modified_gmt":"2025-06-20T21:52:44","slug":"dakota-johnson-reflects-on-dad-don-johnson-cutting-her-off-financially-for-not-going-to-college","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/newsfeed99.com\/?p=1240","title":{"rendered":"Dakota Johnson Reflects on Dad Don Johnson Cutting Her Off Financially for Not Going to College"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"p1\">After\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/dakota-johnson\/\"><strong>Dakota Johnson<\/strong><\/a>\u00a0decided college wasn\u2019t for her, she was financially cut off by her father, fellow actor\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrities\/don-johnson\/\"><strong>Don Johnson<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cI didn\u2019t get in [to The Juilliard School] and my dad cut me off because I didn\u2019t go to college,\u201d Dakota, 35, told\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.elle.com\/uk\/life-and-culture\/culture\/a64741225\/dakota-johnson-interview\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\" aria-describedby=\"audioeye_new_window_message\"><i>Elle UK\u00a0<\/i><\/a>in a profile published on Wednesday, May 14. \u201cSo, I started auditioning. I think I was 19 when I did\u00a0<i>The Social Network<\/i>, and then little jobs and stuff after that.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Dakota is the daughter of\u00a0<i>Doctor Odyssey\u00a0<\/i>star Don, 75, and ex\u00a0<strong>Melanie Griffith<\/strong>, who also\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-moms\/news\/don-johnson-celebrates-75th-birthday-with-his-children-whos-who\/\">each have multiple children<\/a>\u00a0from other relationships. As for Dakota, she was so set on following in her parents\u2019 acting footsteps that she didn\u2019t feel the need to apply to other schools besides Juilliard in New York City.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Instead, Dakota stayed in Los Angeles and started hustling for roles and auditions.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cFor a couple of years, it was hard to make money,\u201d she admitted to\u00a0<i>Elle<\/i>. \u201cThere were a few times when I\u2019d go to the market and not have money in my bank account or not be able to pay rent, and I\u2019d have to ask my parents for help.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Dakota added, \u201cI\u2019m very grateful that I had parents [who] could help me and did help me, but it certainly was not fun. The auditioning process, as you know, is the f***ing worst.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">Don previously shared that he maintains a family rule that his children can only stay \u201con the payroll\u201d if\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/pictures\/former-child-stars-who-went-to-college-miranda-cosgrove-more\/\">they are enrolled in school.<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cWe have a rule in the family that, you know, if you stay in school, you get to stay on the payroll,\u201d he said on<a href=\"https:\/\/www.usmagazine.com\/celebrity-news\/news\/don-johnson-reveals-dakota-johnsons-reaction-to-financial-cut-off\/\">\u00a0a 2021 episode of\u00a0<i>Late Night With Seth Meyers<\/i><\/a>. \u201cSo, you go to college, you get to stay on the payroll. Toward the end of high school, I went to [Dakota] and I said, \u2018So, do you want to go visit some colleges?\u2019 Or something like that. And she was like, \u2018Oh, no. I\u2019m not going to college.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p>He continued, \u201cI went, \u2018OK, you know what that means? You won\u2019t be on the payroll anymore.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">When Don initially asked Dakota how she would manage her finances on her own, she replied, \u201cDon\u2019t worry about it.\u201d Dakota booked her debut role in 2010\u2019s\u00a0<i>The Social Network\u00a0<\/i>three weeks later.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\">\u201cAnd the rest is, shall we say, cinema history,\u201d Don recalled at the time of his daughter, who went on to star in projects such as\u00a0<i>50 Shades of Grey, Madame Web\u00a0<\/i>and the upcoming\u00a0<i>The Materialists.\u00a0<\/i>\u201cShe doesn\u2019t really call me for advice.
