Princess Diana had eyes for Kevin Costner, according to Prince William. Speaking recently with\u00a0People<\/em>, Costner recalled meeting\u00a0the Prince of Wales<\/a>\u00a0a while ago.\u00a0During a private conversation<\/a>, William shared that\u00a0his late mother<\/a>\u00a0had a crush on the actor.<\/p>\n

\u201cI got this message that the prince would love to talk,\u201d Costner recollected. \u201cWe met in this room, and it was just us. He walked up, and we shook hands. The first line out of his mouth was, \u2018You know, my mom kind of fancied you.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n

While the actor didn\u2019t divulge further details about the conversation, Costner said William was \u201cvery sweet,\u201d adding that he left their meeting with \u201csuch fond memories of who he was [and] what we talked about.\u201d<\/p>\n

The Academy Award winner had\u00a0planned to work with Princess Diana<\/a>\u00a0on a sequel to 1992\u2019s\u00a0The Bodyguard<\/em>, in which he\u2019d starred opposite Whitney Houston. \u201cThere was a moment that was really flying down the tracks, very quietly, because it\u2019s how I operate,\u201d Costner said of the film, which was ultimately scrapped, in a 2019 interview.<\/p>\n

He had originally been introduced to Diana by the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson. \u201cIt was so sweet. Sarah was the one that set this up. Sarah was very cool,\u201d the actor said. \u201cWhen she could have been going, \u2018Well, I\u2019m a princess too. What about me?\u2019 She didn\u2019t do that at all. Diana and I began to talk.\u201d<\/p>\n

This isn\u2019t the first time Costner has discussed\u00a0almost working with Diana<\/a>. In 2019, he told\u00a0Entertainment Tonight\u00a0<\/em>that \u201cthe studio liked the idea of doing a\u00a0Bodyguard 2<\/em>\u00a0[with Princess Diana] in the same kind of capacity as Whitney.\u201d<\/p>\n

Recalling a phone call they\u2019d had, he said, \u201cI just remember [Diana] being incredibly sweet on the phone when she asked the questions. She goes, \u2018Are we going to have like a kissing scene?\u2019 But she said it in a very respectful \u2014 she was a little nervous because I think her life was very governed.\u201d<\/p>\n

In 2019, the actor also disclosed that he had \u201creceived the script for the sequel<\/a>\u201d just one day before\u00a0Diana died in a car accident<\/a>\u00a0in 1997.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
